Compatibility
JoomSEF 3.x is compatible with Joomla! 1.5 in native mode. 3.x versions are not backward compatible with Joomla 1.0. It supports JoomFish 2.x and many other Joomla 1.5 native or legacy mode compatible components. JoomSEF 3.x requires PHP 5.1.0 or newer.
JoomSEF 4.x is compatible with Joomla! 1.6/1.7/2.5.
All versions of JoomSEF will run on Windows and Linux/Unix systems and support both Apache and IIS webservers (tested on IIS5, IIS6 and IIS7). With some manual configuration can also run on Nginx.
JoomSEF 2.x is compatible Joomla! 1.0.x versions. It will work fine with JoomFish 1.7-1.8 installed.
Free vs. Paid JoomSEF
In short, the free version of JoomSEF is freely distributable but contains links to ARTIO webpages, and has somewhat limited functionality and support. The ARTIO links are genenerated in the bottom of your Joomla site main content block.
Paid JoomSEF has more features and contains no links to ARTIO. The license is proprietary, so it cannot be redistributed and its usage is limited to one Joomla installation. Users with paid versions are prioritized in answering support questions and troubleshooting. When purchasing paid version you will get free upgrades for 1 year from purchase.
