TOPIC: Auto-update doesn't work

Auto-update doesn't work 17 years, 4 months ago #1225

Hello!

In JoomSEF upgrade manager I can see:

Installed version: 1.3.1
Newest version: 1.3.2

But when I click the Upgrade From ARTIO Server link, all I get is a completely blank and empty page. Visiting the upgrade manager again, it still says that I've got v.1.3.1 installed.

Seems the update function isn't working. Please advise.

Hello,

there may be plenty of reasons for this error so it is very difficult to give any advice. You can try to turn on the error messages and the you should see probably some Fatal error message instead of the white page. If you would manage to post the error message here, we might be able to help. For example it could be something related to permissions or some missing component.
At this moment I can only say that in our installations it has always worked fine.

As second option I recommend you to install the normal way then. I.e. download the component, uninstall the old version and install the new one.

Best regards,
Michal

Same problem here.
When using auto-update it results in blank page.
Happens when using auto-update from server or local file.

This is how the address of the blank page looks, if that is of any use.
www.(MY_SITE).se/administrator/index2.php?option=com_sef&task=upgrade&fromServer=1

I found "Error reporting" under the "server" tab in Joomlas global configuration, and set that to maximum. But the result was still identical - a blank update page without any error reports at all.

As second option I recommend you to install the normal way then. I.e. download the component, uninstall the old version and install the new one.l

Will that keep my URL's and everything? Is it perhaps better to FTP the new files and overwrite the old ones?

So, I overwrote the files via FTP. No problems so far.

But now I see that a new version has been released, but version 1.3.2 givest the same result: A blank page.

Still on version 1.3.2.

I tried to read the source code to get some hints on how it is supposed to work. Then I tried to upgrade to v.1.3.3 again and checked my "media" folder in the Joomla installation, and lo and behold:

There I found an "upgradePack.zip", so the connection to the upgrade server works.

I also found an unzipped folder named "upgrade_45a7f627c10b3" , so the unzipping also works.

Meaning that whatever it is that prevents the upgrade to work, and gives a blank page, happens after the upgradepack has been unzipped. Does this help?
