OK, I've got JoomSef installed and working happily, except that I today removed the frontpage component in Joomla from being the first item in the mainmenu, because I want to use my own static content. I added a Home link as the first item in the mainmenu, but now it doesn't show. It says instead "The page you are trying to access does not exist.
Please select a page from the main menu."

If I term Joomsef off, the page appears fine. I have tried purging the custom URLs and the existing SEF URLs, and I have tried turning SEF off and back on again, but it doesn't appear to want to show a custom page as the home page if JoomSEF is turned on.

Any ideas, please?

I am facing the exact same problem.
In my particular case, the first menu item in the mainmenu is a blog content category.
Seems that ARTIO SEF only works fine IF the first menu item in the mainmenu = com_frontpage. What a blow.
