If I am upgrading 404sefx 1.2 to the new component, do I have to completely uninstall and reinstall the component - therefore losing all of my saved URLs? Or can I just overwrite the old files?

the URLs are generated automatically, so it should be no problem just to unistall and reinstall the component. Just in case if you have some manually entered redirects or URLs, it would be wise to backup them first.

I'll do a back up then as I have redone quite a lot of URLs.

And with the 1.2.3 release you state that the numeric results have been fixed. Is this the duplicate URL thing?

I'm not sure what duplicate URLs you mean?

As regards the fix mentioned, the SEF was not able to convert correctly addresses including numeric entities that might be produced by e.g. JCE like: item=30%#38;page=3. That has been fixed.
