Just as an update,once I did what you said, it is now duplicating the URL's and numbering them, eg air-purifiers is now listed about 60 times:
air-pruifiers-and-humidifiers-1
air-pruifiers-and-humidifiers-2
air-pruifiers-and-humidifiers- 3 etc and all the other URL's still have the prefix ItemId -1181 - all-feeding-products-colic-

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I think I am on the right track now.

Thank you so so much for your response. I have just done what you suggested, but unfortunately it has not taken the required field away. With further investigation I discovered that it is the ItemID that is being replicated. I see on the screen you directed me to, there is a setting for Itemid - either Global or override... should I do something there?

In order to remove the URL's I purged them- is that the correct approach? Or should I use the Update button?

Please could you assist me with your Joomsef Component

Joomsef is automatically generating URL as per the image below, our problems is that the url's are not correct,
We can correct them by changing each url using the JoomSEF - SEF URL [ Edit ] which will take a long time and be overwritten when Joomsef updates the links again
This is also very important as the links in the sitemap need to be correct so the site is indexed correctly.

No4 on the sitemap can be used as an example:
all-feeding-products-colic/allergy-food-products/baby-food-6-mnth/holle-organic-oats-porridge

which should be something more like this:
allergy-food-products/baby-food-6-mnth/holle-organic-oats-porridge

- the first part of the URL "all-feeding-products-colic" has been added to just about every Virtuemart SEF URL.

Please advise on the best way for us to set this up so it is done automatically- ie to prevent the incorrect portion of the URL being added or to define what we want to make up the URL?
