Hi there
I have been struggling no stop from late afternoon till early morning hours with this problem.
I have a J 2.5.14 site, latest SEF installed. The site has run for a long time without any problems. Today it started hanging when you want to load a page. It's a very big website, with many SEF urls. I am using cache, but I also noticed that suddenly none of the sef urls are cached anymore. (inside joomsef there is a cache tickbox) IF you try to connect to the site the browser just says: connecting and it hangs forver. There is nothing in the error logs. I did things like flushing, repairing and analyzing tables. It seemed like flushing worked, but soon when I started browsing around to other pages it started again. I am using the cachecleaner from nonumber, but have told it to bypass the joomsef cache folder. I purged the SEF URLS and generated sef urls again, but my joy was shortlived because it only worked for a while and then the site is hanging again. I don't know what to do, this is a big problem because the site has been on and off for tool long and terrible for business. please help somebody
thanks

Hi there
I am getting the following inexplicable problem.
The layout of a certain article is completely messed up, infact, the page shows the correct title but there is not even an article, but only some oddly rendered menu in the content area.
When I searched the SEF urls, I found several variations of a URL pointing to the same story and that the URL that got the most hits was cached instead of the default system one. This has caused me lots of troubles. To curb it in the short term, I deleted all the wrong urls and locked and loaded the correct one into the cache.

This is not a sustainable solution. Do you have any idea how I can avoid this?
I have number duplicates set to NO and also made a change to ignore multiple sources NO
Our setup is 2.5.10 and the latest joomsef 4.4.1

Looking at the URL traces, I get these funny requests which is causing the problem.
How can I solve this? Thanks.

I tried recreating the issue. It seems to me it happens when I try to view duplicates in the SEF url manager. Any ideas why it's doing that or how I can fix it? The site is quite big, towards 60 000 SEF urls.

Hi there
I recently migrated from a Joomla 1.5 instance to a 2.5 instance. Identical server, the old site is still running happely with Joomsef 3 on J 1.5. New site is J 2.5 + JS 4.

I am trying to troubleshoot some urls that do a perpetual redirects. (Kunena) Whenever I try to view duplicate URLS or when I purge SEF urls, the mysql server gets stuck. I tried to copy the identical settings from the old website. Why am I getting this problem?

Please help. I am loosing it.

Yes, I tried that, but I can't figure out what the correct syntax must be.
There is a useful website where I test the rules, martinmelin.se/rewrite-rule-tester/
If you could help me find the solution I would be very greatful.
We have been using Joomsef on this website since Joomla 1.0 and then we migrated to 1.5 and now 2.5 needs to go live soon. There are 35000 SEF urls spread over content items, forums, business directory, galleries etc. etc. and I don't want to loose those the search engine rankings.

If all else fails, I am probably going to have to setup manual redirects for all the categories and sub category layouts. Not looking forward to it.

I would really expect SEF 4 to have similar or better features than SEF 3.

Thanks

Well, I wrote a rewrite rule to redirect visitors to the url SEF 4 now generates, but I don't know how to exclude the administrator folder from it, so this can't be used because it renders the backend useless.

RewriteRule ^(.*)/index.php$ $1.html [R=301]

Hi there
Busy duplicating my setup for a migration between J1.5 and 2.5 with SEF 3 to SEF 4. In the old site, I had the settig on Default index file setup to display index.php
My SEF urls would look like this: section/category/index.php for a typical blog layout.

How do I achieve this in JoomSEF 4? (eg. set it on / off and provide the index.php to use)

If there is not a setting, where can I alted code to do this, or set a redirect up to correct this.
Currently, it's creating urls like this: category/category.html
I want it to be category/category/index.php or otherwise I need to catch the incorrect URLS and redirect them to the new ones.

Bit of a monologue going here, but here is how I solved it.
Previously I purged all SEF URLS and cleared the cache from inside Joomsef. I did this over and over and saw no difference to the URLS even if I turned the setting to include menu names or not.

Because I was testing, I had the SEF features completely off and also joomsef.

After reading the reply, I did the same as usual, but I also went and cleaned the cache in Joomla and purged expired cache. I saw Joomsef 4 was in the list, but it said 0 files.

After doing that, I turned Joomla's SEF on and mod rewrite, as well as activated Joomsef 4.
When I did a CTRL-F5 on the home page, the urls were generated correctly.

I am not sure which of those things I did fixed it, but this may help somebody else.
Thanks for your reply dajo!

Yes, I have done that over and over, no change. That's why I am asking on the forum ;-)
Is there any other setting that would ovverride this behaviour?
Thanks

Hi there
I have a Joomla 1.5 to 2.5 migration site that has to go live soon. the old site has a naming structure
www.domain.com/section/category/article-name.html running joomsef 3.

I tried to duplicate identical settings to the J2.5 SEF4 install, but I get this:
www.domain.com/article-name(or menu name/category/category/article-name.html

It does not help to go to com_content - common settings and choose to use / don't use menu item in URL.
I have the latest joomsef 4 installed, purged all SEF urls and I can't get it to work like the previous setup.

I need a solution urgently, because when the new site goes live, I cant have traffic looking for www.domain.com/tools/screwdrivers/page-title.html and then it can't find it because it's now www.domain.com/page-title/tools/screwdrivers/page-title.html

Thanks for your help.
