Hi Denis

Ah, I see - here it is without Artio or core SEF:

The notes I made above still apply. Let me know if there is anything else you need. Thanks

Here is an example from my local test machine with Artio JoomSEF turned off, as requested.

This is the URL which appears when I try to reply to an existing comment as a thread by clicking reply to open the comment reply form:

http://local.review-filter.com/browse-categories/article/nugget-directory/62-cat-computers-internet/73-joomla-phpbb3-forum-bridgerokbridge-versus-jfusion.html#comment_11

If I leave the form and scroll up the page then go to the address bar and press enter on this URL, the page will jump back to the comment with the open form

BUT strangely, if I instead paste this URL into a fresh browser tab it just shows the article and comments as normal - it doesn't jump to a comment anchor point and it certainly doesn't open the reply form.

Don't know if this helps, but thought I'd mention it.

Any support on this please??! It is definitely a JoomSEF problem - the comment reply works when Artio is turned off.

Hmmm - sounds like you need granular control of permissions.

I am no expert on this, but I can tell you the following which may be good enough for your needs:

  • JoomSuite (now known as Mighty Extensions) has an advanced user registration component which is much better than the core Joomla one and allows you to create various custom fields and so on. See here
  • They also have a permissions component which allows you to set up custom types of account other than the core Joomla ones like Registered, Publisher and so on. You can modify access permissions to specific components and so on. As an example, you can even allow create a user groups to have front end access even when the site is offline, with or without ability to make submissions, whilst not having backend access - handy for demonstrating progress to interested parties whilst the site is still under development. See here
  • These new JoomSuite usergroups are carried forward into JFusion, and you can assign which phpBB3 usergroups should match against your new Joomla usergroups. You can always create new phpBB3 usergroups if you need to (phpBB3 already has this functionality)

I use these components myself, though I haven't needed to play with special accounts and permissions too much yet. I find JoomSuite very good - the only drawback is that most of their components are encrypted with ionCube, so you will need that running on your server. Hope this helps.

Regarding the SEF plugin for JoomSuite Resoruces (a.k.a Mighty Extensions Resources):

Resources now has threaded comments capability. But when Artio JoomSEF is enabled, I cannot use threaded comments. I click 'Reply' on an existing comment, the reply form shows briefly, and then I am almost immediately diverted to the home page.

Please release a fix or tell me what I can do to get this working without changing to another SEF product as was suggested to me?

That is correct BUT there are a couple of things I would say about it (I'm no expert, these are just my observations of things you might want to consider):

  • Some people would argue against integrating your forum into Joomla because you then have to load Joomla AND phpBB3 on the same page which may slow down your page loads etc.
  • You'll probably still want to modify your phpBB3 template a bit to match the rest of your website properly anyway
  • Depending on how much work is put into the Artio plugin you may not have as much control over your URLs as you get with phpBB3 SEO
  • They've probably fixed it with the recent releases, but I was finding when I used JFusion in integrated mode that certain operations and images didn't work as expected in phpBB3, which was another reason why I finally decided on the Direct Link mode

As far as duplicating your Joomla template goes, I see your point - I used ja_purity for my Joomla site and found a phpBB3 template based on this. I then used trial and error and a little research to get exactly what I wanted (I'm not a programmer or web designer so I don't know PHP etc.).

If you have a custom Joomla template then finding a suitable ready-made phpBB3 template will of course be harder.

Hope this gives helpful food for thought - in my opinion an Artio pllugin for JFusion with integrated phpBB3 would be a very helpful option if properly developed, but I don't see this setup being a magic bullet.

I have gone a different route now - I'm using JFusion in Direct Link Mode so that my forum is not wrapped into Joomla. My phpBB3 forum then has a template which looks like the rest of my site, and I use phpBB3 SEO Mod to rewrite URLs for the forum part of my site.

Thus the Joomla part of my site uses Artio, the forum uses phpBB3 SEO.

I guess if you are determined to use JFusion frameless mode though you would have to continue to badger Artio for the plugin.

I get this error at various times in the front end of joomla. Last time was when I did a search with the Joomla Article content searchbot, but I have also seen this error when setting up a JoomSuite PeopleTouch profile.

Notice: Array to string conversion in C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla4h\components\com_sef\joomsef.php on line 53

I have no idea what this is about - anyone know how to fix it?

I would be very interested in this too, particularly as I am also using JoomSuite Resources, for which Artio has already added compatibility.
