TOPIC: Profile URL Community Builder

Profile URL Community Builder 14 years, 3 months ago #13320

Does the Community Builder extension produce links like www.domain.com/username.html ?

If yes, how? If no, when will there be a version which does?

Hello,

Yes, the Community Builder extension can produce such links. You just need to go to Manage Extensions page in JoomSEF, open the Community Builder extension parameters and set the "Add menu title" option to "No" or "Except link to profile".

Thank you for your reply. Maybe I have a misunderstanding of how this extension works.
I would like to enter the following as URL: www.domain.com/anyusername.html and it should show the profile page of this user then.
Is the extension supposed to work this way?

Yes. But in order to work, JoomSEF first needs to create the link in its database, which is done automatically when the link is first encountered when browsing the page. So first you need to crawl the page so the links to users' profiles are created by JoomSEF, and then it will work by entering the URL manually to the browser. So when the new user registers, the link to his profile first needs to be seen somewhere by JoomSEF (probably on some page with the list of users), before it can be used to directly open the user's profile page.

I was blind. Thanks for walking me through this. Now I have created a userlist containing all userlists and now I have them all.
Now there are 2 remaining things bugging me:

1. Is there a way to have a special prefix for profile pages only? Lets say to have a URL like this: www.domain.com/prefix/username.html. Because this way I would be able to prevent search engine to spider the profile pages by excludig this via robots.txt
Or is there another way to prevent spidering of the profile pages.

2. What would be the best practice to make sure the SEF links to the users profile pages get created and stored by Joomsef as soon as possible after the the user has registered.

1. Unfortunately, adding some prefix only to the profile pages is not possible at the moment, but we'll add it to our Requested features list.

2. Probably the best way would be to modify the template so the page that is displayed just after the user's registration would show the link to his new profile somewhere, so JoomSEF would create a SEF URL and store it in the database right after the registration is completed. Or the link wouldn't even have to be visible on the page, adding the call to JRoute::_() function with the new profile's URL somewhere in the PHP would be enough. But the exact changes needed are beyond our free support options.
