Edit in frontedd fails - Duplicate Alias

This is really a strange problem. I don't see a reason why the editing URL should look like:
beta.homedomain/component/content/?view=form&layout=edit&a_id=5
when view=form is not set in "Do not SEF URLs" option.

What exactly happens when you use the "view=form" in "Do not SEF URLs" option and try saving the article? Is there any error message displayed?
