Hi I have some articles that have identical titles and we are using joomsef to create url based on title - so in effect
an article called "About Us" gets the url ourdomain.com/about-us
if we create a new article called "About Us" - we are stuck ?

Becuase in teh article list when somone clicks on teh second / new About Us article it goes t the /about-us url that links to eth old article

Is this where number duplicate URLS will help?

Yes, this is exactly where Number duplicate URLs help. After enabling it, you should have /about-us and /about-us-2 URLs, so they can be distinguished.
Make sure that you delete the already created URLs and clear the caches after enabling the option, so they can be recreated with new configuration.
