TOPIC: htaccess

htaccess 12 years, 10 months ago #22851

I upgraded a site to Joomla 1.6 from an older version. However, most of my inner link pages are not indexed (I had many links doing well in SEO/had spent much time/money on them). After doing some research, I believe it could be either a) a problem with the code b) the ARTIO SEF, or c) the .htaccess file and/or the robot.txt file

Mainly I wanted to ask about ARTIO SEF - did you you the attached htaccess file it suggests?

Also, I can't seem to change the title tag on the homepage...can you tell me how to do this? And all the metas I created do not show up in any of the pages.

This is the one it suggests, I changed it - the one you had as the htaccess file it attached. So I can replace it if this one goes bad.

For Apache, set your ".htaccess" file like this (this is file for Joomla 1.5.x):
##
# @version $Id: htaccess.txt 9975 2008-01-30 17:02:11Z ircmaxell $
# @package Joomla

Hello,
if your pages are not indexed, there may be 3 reasons:
- Google has not indexed them yet (it may take some time before a page appear in Google's index)
- Google cannot reach the page (this is not likely if the page is normally linked through Joomla menu or content)
- the indexing of the page or folder is prohibited (this would be done in robots.txt file); so check that robots.txt is correct

As regards the homepage meta title, you need to go to URL Manager in JoomSEF and choose "homepage links" in the filter. If there is none listed, you may click 'create link to homepage'.

If you do not see meta data you have entered, then either there is some caching active, JoomSEF is not activated properly or the metas get overriden by something else (other component/plugin). This is however difficult to reveal remotely.
