seems that the sef_ext.php file distributed with Alphacontent is not compatible with JoomSEF or that there is some other problem there. To prevent this, remove the file "omponents/com_alphacontent/sef_ext.php" or disable SEF for Alphacontent component.

I solved this problem by going into the AlphaContent (2.5.5) control panel:

SEF > SEF component used > internal SEF of CMS

and that did the trick.
