TOPIC: Two URLs created for single Static Content Item

Two URLs created for single Static Content Item 17 years ago #1909

Joomla 1.0.12
Artio 1.4.2

Created static item:

fred.html

However, when doing a search, the following results are displayed:

fred.html
fred-2.html

Both link to the same static content - no other content items relate to the 'fred' content

Also, both of the above links are displayed in the Artio View/Edit SEF URLs list

My concern is that spiders might consider this a kind of spam.

Is there anyway to prevent the extra links /fred-2.html from being created and found in searches?

Many thanks :-)

Any ideas on this one?

I'm not really worried about users cuz the site easy to navigate.

I'm more worried that the duplicate 'pages' with 'duplicate' content might be considered spam by the search engines

Thanks

Hi! I have been using Artio Joomsef for a while, and I have the same problem as you. I use JoomSEF 5.0 (Licensed/Paid version).

When I add an Item to the frontpage I get file.htm, but if you go to the "SECTION" there will also be a duplicate file-2.htm in the section.

This is a major problem since Google recently adverticed that they are going to give penalties for duplicate content.

Since JoomSEF is a SEO component I am a bit dissapointed that this is not beeing fixed.

How may we solve this?
1. Stop publishing items to the frontpage (Not a good solution indeed, but working)
2. Stop using Sections (Eighter not a good solution, but working)

I have solved the problem by using a static item on the frontpage with manually created links in the txt, but this is expected to be a short term solution.

When disabling Joomsef, clearing all caches and enabling it again, it works until a user is posting a item to the frontpage. Then, viola, duplicate content again!

Is this a Joomla Issue or a JoomSEF problem?

Need a working solution!
Please help!

With Artio 1.5 out, it mentions this fix:

What are the main improvemets in v1.5.0?

* Added option to accept URLs both with/without trailing slash
* Added option not to store 404 page hits records to decrease number of SQL queries
* Fixed some duplicate URLs issues (especially with VirtueMart)

Is this the duplicate issue that we've been mentioning?

Thanks :-)

Just upgraded to Artio 1.5, but the duplicate issue remains

I have a single content item named News About Today

1. The Linked title of the article (on the Front Page) has it correct:

/news-about-today.html

index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=1&id=4&task=view

2. The Latest News side module has it as:

/news-about-today-3.html

index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=5&id=4&task=view

3. And, something else has it like this:

/news-about-today-2.html

index.php?option=com_content&id=4&limit=&limitstart=&pop=1&task=view

It does this with all my content items<br><br>Post edited by: scanreg, at: 2007/04/26 13:22

Ah....found it:

Artio Configuration &gt; Exclude source info (Itemid) &gt; YES

When I set this to YES, no more duplicate items were created, just one.

However, the INFO button next to this feature said:

This will exclude information about link source (Itemid) from URL. This may prevent duplicate URLs, but probably will limit your Joomla! functionality.

How will it limit the Joomla functionality? Not sure what we're losing. If this could be explained, it would be great. Thanks :-)
