Ok, like I said before, it seems that my problem is that the SEF URL's use the menu item name as the first part of the url. Does anyone know where in the code it is that makes it use the menu item name as part of the url? I assume if I could remove that part, then my problem would be fixed. So anyone out there that understands code more than I, could you please point me in the right direction to finding the code that tells it to use a menu item name as the first part of the URL?

Ok, I figured out a little bit more about the cause of the problem. It seems that the first part of the URL is created by the menu item, then the rest of the url is the pathway. So it depends on which submenu item I click on as to what gets duplicated. Example:

There's a menu item that is Sulfur Filters > Pure Tech Systems > Pure Tech 2550 heavy sulfur multibed System so if I click on the first part of the menu item, and follow the links on the page to get to the item, I end up with:

sulfur-filters/sulfur-filters/pure-tech-systems/pure-tech-2550-heavy- sulfur-multibed-system/pure-tech-2550-1-cubic-foot-iron-filter-system-fleck-5600-timed-3-4-inch- stainless-bypass.html

If I mouse over Sulfur Filters, and then click on the Pure Tech Systems menu item that pops out and follow the links on the page to get to the item, the URL ends up being:

pure-tech-systems/sulfur-filters/pure-tech-systems/pure-tech-2550-heavy- sulfur-multibed-system/pure-tech-2550-1-cubic-foot-iron-filter-system-fleck-5600-timed-3-4-inch- stainless-bypass.html

So basically the SEF URL is being created as the domain, then the menu item name, then the pathway to that item. So is there anyway to remove it including the menu item name in the URL? Because that will always be a duplicate since that will always be in the pathway somewhere.

Ok, my SEF urls are really messed up. It seems to be making duplicate sections of the URL, but the strangest thing is it is not even consistant with which part it duplicates. Some URL's are like this one:

www.cleanmywater.com/54k-pure-tech-3000-...tainless-bypass.html

and some are like this one:

www.cleanmywater.com/sulfur-filters/sulf...tainless-bypass.html

and others will duplicate the second section. So sometimes it doubles the first section, sometimes the second, then otehr times the third. It's REALLY annoying!LOL Is there anyway to stop it fromdoing the duplication all together? I know I can go into edit SEF URL's and strip off the first part to remove the duplicate, but there are over 12 thousand URL's, so that would be a bit of a pain. Any ideas on how to fix this, or even what is wrong?

Ok. fixed my problem. I am not sure how it happened, but somehow my RewriteEngine On got commented out in my htacess file. Very strange since I did not access the htaccess file until after the problem started, so I have no idea how it happened, but it is fixed now.

I am having the same problem. Only difference is my installation is in the root, no subdirectory. I can get to the homepage no problem, but any link from there gives me a 404 page. It has to be a rpobelm with JoomSEF because if I put the old url in, the index.php...\" one then the pages come up fine. I can even go into my url list in the artio component, copy one of the old url's and pastge it in my browser, and it works fine, but if I use one of the new ones I get a 404 error. What is really odd is everything was working fine for the last 2 days, then all of a sudden I am getting 404's on every page except the home page. I see this problem posted about a lot in this forum, but have yet to see anyone give a solution:(

Um, you are suppose to use the 3rd party one. That's what artio joomSEf is, a 3rd party SEF component. If you are using joomla's built in sef, you use the first section, if you are using ANY others, you use the second and comment out the first.

I think you need to make the RewriteBase /store since you are using the /store subdirectory. Also, if I read everything correctly, you may also need to make:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^(/component/option,com) [NC,OR] ##optional - see notes##

to

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^(/store/component/option,com) [NC,OR] ##optional - see notes##

But most importantly, you need to comment the standard sef stuff and uncomment the 3rd party ones. It seems you have it backwards.

Ok, this is really annoying. I purged all of the URL's and reset everything, and the problem went away. It has worked fine for the last 2 days, but now it's giving me 404's again on every page except for the homepage. I have no clue what is causing it, and it's really annoying that it just pops up after everything has been working fine for a day or 2. I cannot keep purging my urls because that makes the site extremely slow when it has to create all of the url's again. Any idea on how I can fix this?

Ok, here are some examples of what I am talking about with the urls repeating themselves. there is \"domain.com/36-to-45-gallon-tanks/pressur...tank.html\"

see how the first part after the domain and the second to last part are the same? Now I noticed that I could go into edit sef url's and alter the url to show however I want, but that are almost 5 thousand urls in there...so is there anyway to make joomsef make the urls itself without duplicating like that?

I am having the same problem. Everything was working for a few hours, then all the pages except for homepage started showing a 404 error. First there was an internal 500 error, then all pages showed 404 error. I tried changing the $base variable like stated in earlier post here, but that did not fix the problem. My site is at 71.18.19.230. Anyone have any ideas?

I made a joomla site to replace our old static site. We have google adwords setup going to the site. I am wondering if there is a way to redirect the urls that I have my adword ads pointing to go to one of the new sef urls joomSEF created? Basiaclly I have like \"www.cleanmywater.com/productpages/uvlights.html\" url from the old site that has an adwords ad pointing to it. I would like to make a redirect somehow to make it so that if someone clicks on the ad, when it tries to go to that url, it will go to the url created by joomsef of the page that is on the new site. Anyway to do this?

I setup the artio SEF and have installed the virtuemart addon for it that I bought from here. Everything is pretty much working, a few little issues I need to sort out, like the menu link sef url doesn't look all that great because it seems to be generating a sef url from the artio component, then generating another one form the virtuemart addon, then merging the 2 together. So it basically comes out looking like domain.com/last sub cat name/category name/sub cat name/last sub cat name.html. So it duplicates the last part at the beginning and the end. That's not an exact description of what is happening, but it gives the idea. Anyways, the other problem I am having is with any javascript popup window links I have in my content. They are not changesd to sef urls at all. Take for example, in virtuemart, ther is a manufacturer link on the product pages. When you click on it, it pops up a window containing information about the manufacturer of the product. These links still have the old url, they are not changed to a sef url. Any ideas on how to fix this?

P.S. If anyone has any thoughts on the first problem, I'm all ears for any solutions there also. If my description doesn't really make any sense to you, give me an hour and I'll update the post with a few exact copy and pastes of the urls it is assigning to the menu. I have artio sef turned off at the moment, so can't show now, but I will come back and update my post as soon as I get it turned on again in an hour or so!

I am on artio joomSEF 1.5, and I am having the same prblem. I wasthinking of doing the upgrade to 1.5.1 hoping that might fic it, but I see gorom your post, that the problem is still there in 1.5.1 L( Please, if anyone knows of a way to fix this, please let us know! I am trying to launch my site to live onight, but there are 2 issues with joomSEF that are holding me back, This weblinks showing nor authorized is 1 of the pronlems stopping me from launching. The other reason is that for some reason, it seems that joomSEF and the extebsion I bought from the artio store for virtuemaert seem to be conflicting. They both seem to be trying to write the url for the menu items, and it ends up having duplicate content in it. If anyone has any ideas on either of these 2 problems, please give me a shout:)

If no one can answer that question, does anyone know if there is any sort of configuration for the joomSEF extensions? I have bought the virtuemart extension, and that seems to be the one causing the problem. All of the links that I get a problem url on are virtuemart links. The links on my menu go to virtuemart categories, and the other links I spoke of are on virtuemart products. So it seems like I need to configure the virtuemart extension, however I cannot find any access into a configuration for it. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Well, I sort of fixed the problem by turning on the "exclude souce info". However, there is still a problem. Now the url for each menu item is domain.com/menuitem/category/subcategory/menuitem.html. Why is the menu item at the beginning?

Ok, well I just read the documentation, and it seems I have another problem. My main menu items all have url domain.com/48k-pure-tech-3000-multibed-system/number.html and by number I mean it starts off on the first menu link, and starts counting, from 1 to 402 for each of my menu items. Now in the documentation it says:

Use JoomSEF Configuration to turn SEF off for those components you do not need it or which generate too many unoptimized links. Typically when you note links like 45.html, 46.html, ..., something is probably wrong.

However, I can not turn SEF off for virtuemart, since it is one of the main reasons why I am using the sef component, and that I bought the virtuemart extension for. So does anyone know what is wrong there?

I have joomsef 1.5 and the virtuemart 1.0.1 extension installed on my server. From what I understand, the layout for the urls for virtuemart sef url's is something like domain.com/storename/category/product.html. My problem is, for some reason, joomsef has decided that one of my categories is my store name. All my main menu url's are "domain.com/48k-pure-tech-3000-multibed-s...umber.html" and my main menu items are all set to link to virtuemart categories. Then if you choose a product, it's url is like "domain.com/48k-pure-tech-2000-multibed-s...0-met.html"
City water softeners being the main category, and then pure tech systems being a sub, and each one a sub until the last part being the product. Now 48k pure tech 3000 multibed system is the first of the low level categories on my main menu, and 48k pure tech 2000 multibed system is the first low level category in the section that the fleck 2510 is in. Now any product I choose, the part where store name should be has the first low level category as the name there. Anyone know why it's like that and how I can fix it?

Well I just checked my site checkout after installing joomsef 1.5 and the vm plugin 1.0.1 and I do not have any problems checking out on my https. I am not using shared SSL, so maybe that is why mine works fine?

OK, well this problem seems to not be anywhere near as bad with JoomSEF 1.5. good job on the upgrade:)

I enabled artio SEF on my site, and now it hangs for about 10-20 seconds before it actually starts loading the page. I tested to see if it was the joomla sef option, or the artio one, and it is the artio sef causing it. I had artio 1.4 installed and uninstalled it to install 1.5 since the update doesn't work for me since my server uses php4. While it was uninstalled, but still having the joomla SEF urls set to yes, i loaded my site and it loaded fine. Once I installed the new artio SEF component, there was a delay in loading my site again. So does anyone know what can be done to help speed up the loading of your site while using the artio SEF component?
