Hi! I've just moved my website to another hosting center and I noticed that the Artio backlink suddenly reappear. I have the same issue with Falang but I will address it on their website.

Here are the spec:
Joomla 2.5.11
JoomSEF 4.4.1
URL service2000.ca/
Registration ends in September (I think).

Thank you.

I did it for the alias and this part seems to work correctly. Now for the htaccess changes, I went in this tab where I can see:
301 redirect with an empty table and a (strange) checkbox related to nothing (I'm not sure if there is a problem here)
Rewrite base box that is not enabled (should I enable it?)
Follow symlinks that is disabled too.

From there, should I enable something to begin? Is it normal for the 301 box (I attach a screen capture) ?

Ok. As we can provide apart the ItemId in the URL Manager, I thought at first that it would be logical to say that every variations of links for an ItemId will be taken in charge at once. The ItemId is unique and is related to a Menu Item. This menu item link to something (article, component, etc.) but is also unique at the end.

So, if I have this url:
index.php?option=com_content&catid=10&id=5&lang=fr&view=article&Itemid=129
redirected to:
fr/reparation-electromenager/mission

Wouldn't it be logical to catch also automatically:
index.php?option=com_content&catid=10&id=5&lang=fr&Itemid=129
or:
index.php?option=com_content&id=5&lang=fr&view=article&Itemid=129
or:
index.php?option=com_content&catid=10&lang=fr&view=article&Itemid=129
or even:
index.php?Itemid=122

or any other combinations. Even the language parameter should not cause any problem because there is a default language that could be used in these cases. This example above is not from an external component. It is a basic Joomla article.

Now, I'm talking about that because the URL Manager is kind of "polluted" by those extra urls and when I have to crawl into it, I have about a hundred URL to check in place of 20 something.

Hi! What would be the best way to redirect systematicaly www.somedomain.com to www.somedomain.com/suffix-xyz including all variations such as language.

In the panel 301 Redirects Manager, I put this:
/ ->redirect to fr/reparation-electromenager
fr ->redirect to fr/reparation-electromenager

But it doesn't work. I thought I could use directly the htaccess file but I'm not sure if I will bybass another process.

I'm running JoomSef 4.2.9 paid version on a Joomla 2.5.8.

Thank you!

Hi! I have about the same problem. URL source tracing is activated but I think the problem is elsewhere in my case. Let's see this example. I'm in the panel "Manage SEF Url". In SEF Url column, I have two items en/faq.
1 - index.php?option=com_faqbook&lang=en&view=faqbook&Itemid=122
2 - index.php?option=com_faqbook&id=15&lang=en&view=category&Itemid=122

As you can see, both links are differents but all leads correctly to the right page. However, I do not want to have dupplicate so, I edited the first one (that has 30 hits instead of the second that has no hit at all) and, in the panel "aliases", I added the second link to merge all variations of the same link. I then deleted the "wrong" link (number 2).

I thought that would be fine. However, few days later, when I came back, the link was dupplicated again as seen above.

Maybe I did not understand correctly the purpose of the tab "aliases" but if so, how should I set it up?

Thank you!

Problem with bilingu ...

Hi (again)!

Here is another strange (at least for me) issue that I could not find anywhere in the forum. First, the spec:

- Joomla 2.5.7
- Artio Jomsef 4.2.9 (paid)
- FaLang 1.1.6
- Breadcrumb -> native from Joomla itself

- URL : www.service2000.ca/en/appliance-repair/w...-and-washing-machine
See breadcrumb:
Home > Appliances > Type of appliance > Washer and washing machine

In some cases, I have to use "hidden" menu which are simply menu I do not link to a module but I use it to have ItemId for some pages. Of course, some of those "hidden" ItemId are simple Aliases of "real" menu items.

Now the problem is that, for the english version of the website only (french is the default language), in the breadcrumb (only), I just can't cast the URL to a SEO link. The rendered URL is www.service2000.ca/index.php?Itemid=165 instead of www.service2000.ca/en/appliances-we-service

The www.service2000.ca/en/appliances-we-service link already exist (for the main item menu not the alias one) but the breadcrumb use the alias one at this place.

I tried to add it as custom URL, to add it as Alias (in the tab Aliases), to put it in the 301. Nothing works.

Any idea???

I finally got it. You were talking about the tab Alias and I thought you were talking about the alias of the menu (or the article) item. Sorry for that. I should have read your answer twice.

Now, it triggers another question: this alias tab, how does it work exactly? I'm afraid I do not use it only because I do not understand why it is there. Should we use this for multiple urls that go to the same place?

Sorry but I'm afraid my request was not clear. Actually, if I use the URL service2000.ca/, I would like it to be redirected automatically to service2000.ca/fr/reparation-electromenager

I do not want to have the service2000.ca/ alone. We always need to have it with the prefix BUT the prefix can change for other pages.

Hi!

I would like to redirect the root of my website to a chosen SEO link. I tried several things but none of them worked. I've scanned the forum but I can't see anything related to that that could be useful.

Joomla version: 2.5.7
Joomsef version: 4.2.9 (paid version so the complete one)

The root url I wish to redirect:
www.mysite.com

The new url I wish to have everytime the root is called
www.mysite.com/fr/the-specific-link

Please note that the new url represent the home page actually. It is not a subfolder or else. The change is only for SEO purpose.

What I tried:
In Manage 301 Redirects, I put in
- the Move from url textfield : /
- the Move to url textfield : fr/the-specific-link

Also, in the Manage SEF URLs (filtered to Show links to homepage), there is no link actually. If I click on the Create links to homepage button, this trigger some actions but at the end, nothing really happened.

Thank you for your help!

As we are waiting for it to go in Prod, I will try simply adding the "en" or "fr" in the URL for now. Please, let me know if it is possible to use URL without the language prefix. If so, we will fix it next. Thank you for your help!

No, my client decided not to use the "en/" or "fr/" prefix for some reasons. He prefers to translate the url itself and not see the language.

Hi!
I've read many posts regarding this subject but none of them seems to present the current issue. You could see below the detailed configurations, versions etc.

The problem
The website has two languages (french and english) which are managed with Fa Lang a branch of Joomfish. I setup all the URL in the custom URLs panel. For indicating the language in the URL, we use a simple variable in the querystring (lang=fr or lang=en). For instance, I have URL such as "index.php?option=com_content&catid=8&id=1&lang=en&view=article&Itemid=101" that is converted to "appliance-repair". BUT, even if I switch language and the URL appear correctly in the right language, the page content always appears in french. If I disabled Joomsef, it works perfectly so I though something doesn't work between Joomsef and Fa Lang.

Components and versions
  • Joomla 2.5.7
  • Fa Lang 1.1.6 (basic) paid version
  • Artio Joomsef 4.2.9 paid version
