I think developers wanted to avoid script timeouts - that is if too many pages have to be parsed. It's an unelegant solution, even slightly lazy ;-)
too many pages

Ben,

i think you are not right.
Look on Artios webpage

The latest open-source version of JoomSEF may contain links to ARTIO webpages or some of the JoomSEF development sponsors. Based on our policy, the older versions of JoomSEF available from our pages will be kept free of these links. You can also get the latest version without links of the JoomSEF from our webshop. If you would like to become JoomSEF sponsor, please contact us via emailThis e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

It's not a problem of weather we LIKE it or not , it's the contract you virtually sign by downloading their component. If someone does not like ads he should pay or at least ASK permission to remove them. It's just as simple as that.
I was wondering if KANGA did ask for this permission (i really doubt that)

I am pretty pissed that sites like KANGA get credit for other peoples work, and they do it JUST to get traffic (as you can see on their site, they are some sort of hosting company) and NOT to get involved in the community in any way.

Open source is a a wonderful world, but you mistake open source and wild west practices, and that is not the idea.

And as you know there are Commercial SEF components, and i think even successful ones.
Are they allowed to ...

Some guys from "Kanga internet" released a "patched" version of artio sef. They seem to have removed some ads or something.

as a joomla developer myself i wonder .. are these acceptable practices? i mean, you invest time and money into your product, and hope that you get some return by ads, and someone else just deletes some lines and "there's a new product"?

i'm not sure if you know about these guys, but i wonder what your opinion is (since it's your product). I know i would go mad about such things :)
