We have just migrated to Joomla from Open Realty and installed JoomSEF. To help the search engines we wanted to create permanent re-directs from some of our old pages to where they are now stored but we can't get it to work;

I setup it up like this in JoomSEF;

MOVED FROM URL: propertynow.com.au/index.php?&st...action=searchresults
MOVED TO URL:propertynow.com.au/index.php?option=com_...y&Itemid=122

But it doesn't work. I also tried;

MOVED FROM URL: /index.php?&state=WA&action=searchresults
MOVED TO URL: /index.php?option=com_cmsrealty&Itemid=119

But I doesn't work either. As a last resort, I tried to directly edit the .htaccess in the normal way I would setup a 301 redirect but it doesn't work either, seems to be overridden.

As a half-baked solution I tried setting them up as temporary redirects but to no avail.

Note: Temporary re-directs in the below format are working;

MOVED FROM URL: ashmore
MOVED TO URL: index.php?option=com_cmsrealty&Itemid=61&action=listingview&listingID=293&cmsrealty=user

I really have no idea what to do now and would appreciate any help

If you are doing redirects with query strings, that gets a little tricky. see this:

www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=re...p;btnG=Google+Search

We are having the same problem.

If we set up a 301 redirect from:

holiday-cottages/search.php?Town=Bude
to
holiday-cottages/search.php?Town=Holsworthy

That doesnt work.

However

holiday-cottages/bude.php
to
holiday-cottages/search.php?Town=Holsworthy

does.

Is this a bug in artio or an inherrent problem in 301 redirecting.

It's not a problem with Artio, it's an issue with 301 redirect being able to handle a query string unless you set some parameters for it.

So Artio cannot generate that type of re-direct?

I did visit the link you posted and also tried a variety of other searches but could only find info on query string urls to static urls. But the type of redirect I need is query string to query string.

Does anybody have an example I could work off or know of where to find some more info?

I could not get Artio to go from query string to query string, i just tried it. (For that you will have do do come clever coding in your .htaccess file based on some of the stuff I pointed out in Google for that)

I don't think that is how Artio is meant to be used anyway. The point of the software is to make your urls sef.

The way we use Artio (and with much success I might add) is to take a query string url from Joomla and put a friendly name on it:

so this:

/index.php?option=com_content&id=268&task=emailform&Itemid=230

becomes this:

/news-signup

Google can then index it! :)

Our seo has increased amazingly with Artio
