Thats the error I get when this component is turned on. .htaccess is installed according to the guide

500 internal server error is in 99% related to some error in your .htaccess file or other apache configuration problem. Please, send us or post content of your .htaccess.

in the .htacces search these lines:

# Uncomment following line if your webserver's URL
# is not directly related to physical file paths.
# Update Your Joomla/MamboDirectory (just / for root)

#RewriteBase /


As opposed what is says, on some servers this line needs to be uncommented, even if your joomla install is in the root.
