TOPIC: Multilingual Meta Tags

Multilingual Meta Tags 12 years, 11 months ago #26373

Hi to all,

I'm using version 3.9.1. but i don't seem to get multi lingual meta tags to work properly. In all languages, the meta tags are in shop's default language English. In some languages though (like in Greek), i can see some ?????? ???? meaning that some kind of translation has been done here, although not being shown properly.

Is this functionality tested 100% with latest Joomfish version?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi,
What version of JoomFish do you use and what component do you use for your e-shop? Have you set your meta tags manually in JoomSEF or are they configured in JoomFish only?

Hi again,

Sorry for my late reply. The meta description/keywords for all languages other than english are still the English ones. Also for Greek i still get ?????.

The homepage Meta Keyword/Description is always English regardless of Language (i have already set the relevant Meta data in Joomfish for each language)

We have also selected Joomsef to create them automatically, and tried both options to use original Joomla ones or the ones by Joomsef, but the result is the same.

I'm using Joomfish 2.1.7 and Joomsef 3.9.5. The component for our e-shop is Virtuemart 1.1.9. We are using VM Joomsef extension 2.1.1

See also some attached imgs. In the plugins, i see too many System - Artio Joomsef ones, is this normal??

We see also alot of issues in your forum about multilingual meta data. Maybe this is something you should check further, as this is the most important feature for our multilingual shops!

Thank you in advance for your reply!

Chris

A quick update:

Updated to Joomsef 3.9.6, VM extension 2.1.2, Joomfish2.2.3

No improvement noted. Meta tags for all languages are the same (default language). All Greek still appear as ???

Furthermore, if i select :

Meta-keywords preference: Prefer Original
Meta-description preference: Prefer Original

Then the keywords and description tag in the frontend will be empty for the selected language, even if the relevant field have been completed in the Joomfish->Content Languages Parameters

Looking forward to your comments

Thanks,
Chris

Hi,
We'll test the meta tags with JoomFish and let you know.

We have a report that the Greek language pack is causing problems even without JoomSEF. Try checking if all your database tables use UTF-8 encoding and that both your website's frontend and backend use UTF-8 encoding too.

Multiple JoomSEF plugins seems like some problem was encountered during installation or update. I don't think it causes any problems, but to be sure, you can manually remove the plugins from jos_plugins table in your database (using phpMyAdmin or some similar tool), leaving only one that's enabled.

Hi David,

Thank you for the assistance; we tested the ??? issue, it is now ok, good job. Just a comment though, which i hope you will consider for the next version of Joomsef: We really don't want translated URLs (especially now that the search engines have listed the site like this) but to have multilingual meta information is essential, these should be two different options. So, some kind of configuration option in the backend for allowing this is critical for us.

Looking forward to your comments.

Regards,
Chris
