TOPIC: com_search pagination showing strange URLs

Hi,

We are trialling JoomSEF with a view to purchasing if we can get everything working ok. We're on Joomla 1.7 along with Community Builder 1.7. Version of JoomSEF is 4.1.0 (free edition).

Our main problem is that it took a lot of work to get the core (com_search) Joomla search working at all, however now that we do have it working the pagination is way off. We'd actually be quite happy to have the search on non-SEF mode but we have failed to get that working either. Some pointers on the best setup for the core search would be most appreciated.

We have the JoomSEF Search extension installed and the default handler is JoomSEF (we have tried the others too). We have "Handle search phrase as non-SEF" on as this is how we got the search working in the first place. The URL we have for the search results is:

www.example.com/ex-search?searchword=whatever

We locked this URL from modification as if we didn't it starts to fail. As stated this produces the first page of results perfectly. However, the "next" link to page two of the results shows as:

www.example.com/page-5

When clicked we end up back on the home page. :-/

Even when we clear our the SEF cache of stored URLs we still can't get this working. Any idea?

Thanks.

My search doesn't work at all while the Artio SEF system plugin is enabled. It is worked in Joomla 1.5 and it is not working in Joomla 1.7 (different versions of JoomSEF, of course).
When I press "enter", there will be a pop-up open/save window with a suggestion to open/save search.osdx (OpenSearch Description File) file instead of the search results.
How to avoid this strange thing? :( (installed the last version and a new search plugin also installed)

Crispy Beef: I'm sorry it took so long, we'll check this issue.

myharry: This is really strange. Do you use standard Joomla's search, or some other component? Take a look in Manage SEF URLs page in JoomSEF, set Component filter to "Search" and Real URLs filter to "format=" (without the quotes). Are there any URLs? If so, please post a few of them.

We actually also had the same problem as myharry but solved that with the option "Handle search phrase as non-SEF". We kept getting the file requester popping up. Looking forward to getting the search working fully as other than that JoomSEF is a great product. :)

Hi,
We've just updated our Search extension, you can use the Manage Extensions page in JoomSEF to get the new version. You will probably need to delete the already created URLs for Search component using Manage SEF URLs in JoomSEF.
Please let me know if the problem is resolved.

Hi,

We just updated our dev server to the latest version of JoomSEF and also the search plugin and we are currently getting the following errors:

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in ...../components/com_sef/joomsef.php on line 1385

Notice: Undefined index: * in ...../components/com_sef/joomsef.php on line 1278

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in ...../components/com_sef/joomsef.php on line 1278

I've removed the full path so it's easier to see the files that have the notice warnings. While these are not errors and the PHP notices can be switched off for production, I thought I'd mention them.

I will test the newly updated code and report back here.
