TOPIC: Static URL redirects

Static URL redirects 17 years, 6 months ago #238

I installed joomSEF with out much difficulty, and it worked like a charm right out of the box - congratulations.

The thing that I *really need* is a way to redirect all the URLs from my old, static non joomla site, and the whole project is sort of just waiting for this before I can finish it!

I noticed that this feature was labeled as coming soon in your docs and wanted to ask if you have any idea how soon that might be ;-)

I tried another component called redirect, which did not work as it should, and I can't use openSEF because I need joomfish support, and I don't want to go with a non open source solution, so that narrows down my options to just about one thing!

Anyhow, thanks again for picking up the ball on this component - it is simple, and does the job it claims to do!

Hello Matthew,

if I understood right your needs, then the easiest solution for you would be to create a .htacess file with redirect rules moving your visitors from the old to the new site, and put it to your old site. In fact I do not really see how you would like to forward from old to new site using JoomSEF when they come to the old site, which is non-Joomla and thus there is nothing like JoomSEF that could take care about any redirects at all? I believe what you need to do can be done only and only on Apache's level using RewriteRule directives.

Best regards,
Jirka

Hi Jirka

Thanks for your quick answer!

The problem is two fold. I want to use the old domain for the new site when the transfer is complete, in the mean time I am using two different domains. This means that when it works, the old site will not even have an separate .htaccess file.

Earlier I did try adding manual RewriteRule directives to test this on the new site (logically the same .htaccess being used by joomSEF). Unfortunately this did not work, and the redirects just showed the custom 404 error page set up by joomSEF.

In the mean time I have worked around this by pointing all outgoing links on my old site to my new site, but this is really lousy solution, because I cannot use my old domain for the new site...

Any other ideas?

Issue:

Domain 1 - Joomla Installed sucessfully through Fantastico
Domain 2 - Parked and pointing to my Joomla Installation

I have a similar issue I think. I have 2 domains pointing to a Joomla site with Artio JoomSEF instsalled. The 'domain 2' that is pointing to the existing instance of Joomla gives me all 404s and the existing 'domain 1' works perfectly including the SEF urls. As soon as I uninstall JoomSEF both sites work great.
If possible, how do I allow JoomSEF to "see" both domains?? Inevitably I'd like to leverage JoomSEF for both domains.

Thanks a bunch!

Costa.

Same problem here: I have a domain aaa.com where I have Joomla installes w/JoomSEF, everything working great. I do have a second domain bbb.com connected to a webhoster without mySQL, so I have a redirect from bbb.com to aaa.com/joomla and it works so far but for one thing:

if I call bbb.com the browser shows bbb.com as an adress and CORRECTLY displays aaa.com/joomla, BUT if I click on any link the adress bar will show aaa.com/joomla/content/item.html instead of bbb.com/content/item.html

I came as far as to know, that the page source all contains absolute URIs for menu and content links as well. All of them contain aaa.com/joomla.

This is caused by the SEF plugins in order to work correctly they convert all relative links to absolute ones using function sefReltoAbs ($string)

My Question: What do I have to change in the com_sef files in order to have bbb.com instead of aaa.com/joomla in the links?

I have already extended the configuration.php by one line
$mos_live_site_alias = "bbb.com";
So can I change some $mos_live_site vars to $mos_live_site_alias?

Thanks in advance
Paul

BTW: You did a really good job with JoomSef, it works superb on my site.

Hey Paul,

Have you had any luck yet??

Please let me know. JoomSEF works GREAT when I don't use my alternate parked domain.. and users point directly to my original domain... as soon as they hit the alternate domain.. I get errors on all my pages..

can anyone comment???

Thanks a bunch!
