Hi,

You're right, the nonSEF to SEF redirect only works when the SEF URL is already created in the database (security measure).
The best solution would be to alter the VirtueMart's code so it redirects directly to the SEF URL. We can do this for you if you could buy an hour of our support time at http://www.artio.net/e-shop/support-serv...a-related-support-1h. If you do, please contact me at Diese E-Mail-Adresse ist gegen Spambots geschützt! Hi

We have the same problem, that child products is pointing to the parent product.

We have also checked the "Redirect nonSEF URLs to SEF?" with yes! but it will not work.

Example: Parent product:
www.lyseideer.no/belysning/barnerom/le-klint/crossover-big-bugs

Child products:
www.lyseideer.no/index.php?option=com_vi...5&product_id=439
www.lyseideer.no/index.php?option=com_vi...5&product_id=440

Any suggestions?

Re:Virtuemart parent and child items problem 14 years ago #11830

I posted that concern four days ago and just heard back today that I will have to pay to get this fixed. Three days I ago, after I had heard nothing and my production site was suffering and I was potentially losing money, I went and bought sh404sef for $35 (no nickel and dime for other plugins and support hours). After a few hours of tweaking it is doing everything I needed it to. I think joomsef is slightly faster and I like the design better but a 4 day turn on a production issue and then being told I have to pay money to fix a bug is very frustrating.
I should not have had to pay you guys to sef child products on the vm plug-in.

I am spending my time telling you this so that you can re-think your timeliness and approach to helping customers with their production issues.

Good luck and best wishes,

Craig

Hi Craig

Thank you for sharing this with me. The world around "joomla" and "components" to joomla is pretty much like you are describing it.

1. We by a product that is pretty technical and is supposed to make our customers more sef online

2. We find out that there is something "wrong" and use huge amounts of time trying to identify where the "problem" "configuration error" or "bug" is. This is extremely time consuming and often frustrating for us and our clients.

3. We post our findings and may or may not receive a reply within a week or so. During this time we search all different forums to see if there is anyone out there with a solution that we can use.

We would be more interested to buy products and pay more than we are doing today if the products where more mature. When we find some "errors" in the code the supplier should give us credits and be polite and not try to charge us money so they can help us with their own bugs!

But as always technology is often very complicated and developers tend to say "clients are stupid and the do not understand". I really hope that Artio will understand that it is important for them to also say once in a while that, sorry this products was not mature enough or money back....

But still we as producers of web solutions will always be the loosing part since our clients will get pissed at us and we will loose our credibility.

In our company we try to have a "mature" strategy for dealing with joomla and addons.

1. Use a standard joomla install
2. Use only suppliers that are mature and you can trust (not always easy to find out)
3. Only install what you really need and not what you want.
4. Do not tweek in the source code.
5. Use out of the box solutions

We have been using JoomSef with great success for other clients but not with virtuemart before or the virtuemart addon. We have published the sitemap in Joomsef in google webmaster tools and we have more than 2 200 links, but only 44 are indexed. (really shitty) why i really dont know but it is frustrating not getting an reply on your posts.

I really hope that Artio will be the best supplier when it comes to Sef, but they have to test their products even more before lauching a porduct, but i hope they will mature more.

Regarding your google links concern. I started on sh404sef. I had over 6000 google links to my site. Google loved me, but sh404sef decided to start charging so I started looking around and found joomsef. While Artio also cost money, it seemed like a better product so I switched.

I now have about 122 links to my site on Google. The move away from sh404sef KILLED my Google presence. I came humbly crawling back and paid them the $35 - after I had probably spent three times that with joomsef.

I don't know if I can ever get back to 6000+ links but I know what got me there the first time and I'm giving it another shot.

Best of luck!

Craig

Hello,

I'm sorry you're feeling it that way. I've already tried to explain that this is not a problem in JoomSEF, but in VM not supporting SEF components properly (there are always these problems with VM). I've tested the sh404sef and it does the nonSEF to SEF redirection without taking into account the security measure I've already talked about. Of course whether this solution suits your needs is up to you. But please understand, that we cannot fix other components bugs for free, that would be VM developers job.
