TOPIC: Google reports 301 redirect error

Google reports 301 redirect error 14 years, 12 months ago #6593

Hi

Order ID 4001, Joomla version 1.5.9, JoomSEF version 3.2.10

I'm using the 301 redirect feature of JoomSEF for a number of old URLS and from a users point of view, the 301 redirects are working correctly.
ie. you type in domain.com/a.html and it displays domain.com/b.html due to the 301 redirect rule.

Unfortunately Google is throwing an error for the 301 redirect, basically saying 'Redirect error'.
As you know, this is bad for SEO.

How does this work?
Is JoomSEF incorrectly showing the redirect to Google?

thanks
Nick

Hello Nick,

I do not think there should be any problem.
When detecting that a paga shall be redirectected, JoomSEF simply send a 301 Permanent Redirect HTTP header which causes browser to redirect. The same should work with users as well as google and its crawlers.

Where did you find this error?
