TOPIC: problem with urls and can't find them in backend

problem with urls and can't find them in backend 15 years, 2 months ago #5780

Hi
I must have a setting wrong somewhere. (Just upgraded smoothly - but seem to have a persistent porblem)

My site = j-b-t.com.au

My problem is that I have made some custom redirects -
e.g. in my artio list of custom redirects -
index.php?option=com_smartformer&formid=3&Itemid=2 redirected to contact-us.html
however - when I use the menu item contact us (which I have set up as a link url menu item) and links to
index.php?option=com_smartformer&formid=3&Itemid=2 - it redirects to a page called contact.html

When I view all SEF redirects in the artio backend - contact.html is not anywhere to be seen (or I would redirect it!)

I'm am getting this kind of error on many links and sometimes it ruins the layout. In addition many unwanted urls are including category within the url and I have joomsef checked to "no" for this function - e.g. see services on menu - redirects to about/our-services.html

This is causing broken links and all sorts of problems. .. I don't know exactly when this started, it seemed to work well previously. Is it some sort of caching problem - I can't figure it out

In joomla I have seo settings - sef_urls - on and have tried with mod_rewrite both on & off (what should it be? - it's currently on)

Here's an image of my artio settings j-building.com.au/demo2/images/artio.png
I will only be leaving this link up briefly so let me know if it's not there when you would like to view it.

Thanks for your help,

PS: I've looked in jos-redirection and the column "old" urls actually shows sef urls - is this correct?

Hello,

your problem sound quite complex to be able to solve it just from these informaiton, however maybe I have one hint that can help you.

If you DO NOT SEE some links in the JoomSEF back-end, then most likely a sef_ext.php file for the component is used to generate URLs.
  1. JoomSEF works in a way, that first it looks for its own (native) extension to generate URLs. (obviously, there is not any extension for com_smartformer I would be aware of).
  2. If the native extension is NOT found, JoomSEF checks for extension's sef_ext.php file. This file is used to translate component URLs to SEF and back. These URLs are translated on-fly, so they are NOT stored in DB and will thus not appear in JoomSEF backend.
  3. If neiher native extension nor sef_ext.php file is found, JoomSEF uses so-called "default" handler and tries to generate the best URL it can from the generat variables. Usually, for more complex components this does not produce much usable results, as JoomSEF does not understand the variables the component puts in its URLs. Anyway, these URLs are again stored in JoomSEF DB.
In your case, if you are unable to see the URL you see in frontend in backend, I would bet the sef_ext.php file is used. Check in the component directory (com_smartformer) if you can find it there. If so, just rename it to e.g. _sef_ext.php and see if it willl affect the behaviour.

I guess this is the best I can advice you from this point on this issue.

ad your P.S.) yes, that is fine; do not worry about the column names in the table :-), those have some historical and backward compatibility reasons

Good luck!

P.S.: One more thing... if you need more advanced help, including checking and debugging the problem at your site, you can buy some Joomla / JoomSEF support time.

Thanks for your speedy reply - this is not related to one component but to everything - basically the custom redirects are not working - and I don't know why. If I buy some support time - will it definitely be sorted and will I be informed of the problem in case it happens again? I think I will uninstall and reinstall your product and see if that clears some error somewhere.. Will try debugging too.

Was mod_rewrite meant to be on or off?

Thanks again

Hmm.. just uninstalled a few unused components, cleared the cache, reset all urls that were not custom in backendof artio and it's now working perfectly......
Really not sure what the problem was. Will keep an eye on it and monitor over next few days & report any further problems.

Ok,

hope it will last.
And yes, mod_rewrite should be on.
