TOPIC: Probs trying free version before purchasing

Probs trying free version before purchasing 8 months ago #49889

  • Hbagg
I could not work out how to resolve the page 404 errors (all but the home page) it mentions it in the instructions but its not very clear how to fix. Also I have disabled JoomSEF now but for some reason my pictures are not visible in articles & blogs (just shows alt text) .... what can I do to get them back without restoring?

Thanks

Hi,

If you have 404 errors on all pages except homepage, it is most likely caused by incorrect settings in your .htaccess file. Make sure that your web server supports URLs rewriting and that it is enabled and properly configured in your .htaccess file - the default .htaccess file should be created automatically when JoomSEF is installed or you can use Joomla's default htaccess.txt file and rename it to .htaccess (note the dot at the beginning).
You can first check if your SEF URLs work correctly in Joomla with "Use URLs Rewriting" option enabled in Joomla's Global Configuration when JoomSEF is disabled. If they do, then JoomSEF should work correctly.

If your images stopped displaying after JoomSEF was installed, it is most likely caused by your images not using absolute URLs. This might be fixed by changing the "Set page base href value" option to "Yes - always use only base URL" in JoomSEF's Configuration on the Advanced tab. However, if you disable JoomSEF it doesn't affect this, so make sure that it is really disabled - you need to disable JoomSEF in its Configuration, disabling the component itself in Joomla's Extensions Manager won't work.

Many thanks for your informative reply.
I attach two files 1. is .htaccess and the other the joomla htacess.txt. I have tried your suggestion of checking if SEF URLs work correctly in Joomla with "Use URLs Rewriting" option enabled in Joomla's Global Configuration and I still get 404 errors on all but home page with JoomSEF disabled.
thanks

If your .htaccess file contains only that one line "RewriteEngine on", it can't work. Try renaming the Joomla's htaccess.txt to .htaccess and use it instead. If that doesn't help, you can also try uncommenting the "RewriteBase /" line and make sure that it corresponds to your Joomla directory, for example if your website's URL is example.com/joomla/ then the line should be "RewriteBase /joomla"

If none of this helps, I can only offer you our paid support service to check what exactly is causing the problem directly on your website.
