License Renewal Ques ...
Category: JoomSEF 4

I am currently getting emails telling me that my renewal period will expire on 1/15 for JoomSEF 3. However, I upgraded to JoomSEF 4 in September 2011 and so I was expecting a renewal notice for JoomSEF 4 in August/September 2012. Is this a problem in your system?

I somehow feel that I shouldn't be forced to ask these kind of questions in your forum, but you don't provide any direct email addresses on your web page.

Please advise if I need to do anything.

Best regards,
Jens

We are in the process of upgrading our web page to Joomla 1.7. As part of this effort we also upgraded some components and replaced others with new solutions that work more closely to our needs. Since our previous form component has been discontinued, we switched to RSForms! Pro.

This component works fine with JoomSEF as long as we don't use a Captcha anti-spam field. Once we add such a field the field fails to display the graphics.

We also reached out to RSJoomla, but I wanted to check with Artio on this issue as well.

I can somehow remember that we had a similar problem in the past and that it somehow had something to do with the order of plugins.

Do you have any suggestions on how we can get this to work?

Thanks,
Jens

We just moved our site to 1&1 hosting and JoomSEF seems to work, but we noticed that certain elements in the configuration can no longer be accessed:

1. View 404 Logs
Clicking the icon results in http 500.

2. Manage Custom URLs
Same as 1.

According the configuration in JoomSEF everything works fine. We also adjusted .htaccess according to the suggestions. All page links also work just fine.

What could cause the problem above?

Thanks,
Jens

After some more research I found that this behavior is caused by images saved in Adobe Photoshop using 32 bits. It appears that I can only display 24 bits in IIS.

I still don't understand why I would get the misleading HTTP 500 and so the problem might be still be somehow related to Joom SEF, but I can now use a workaround by converting images to 24 bits.

I also found that the problem is limited to JPG images.

Jens

This is really weird and I am not sure which version introduced the problem, but I suddenly can't upload images anymore. Old images work fine and I can also insert them, but as soon as I am uploading a new one it just displays the alternative text.

A quick test shows me that I can load old images by url (e.g. images/stories/...), but new ones give me an HTTP 500 error.

Hopefully, this can be resolved soon.

Thanks,
Jens

My JoomSEF license is valid and I also purchased the Phoca Download extension. However, the upgrade of the Phoca Download extension fails with

Provided Download ID is not valid for the requested file: ext_joomsef3_phocadownload.zip. Please, make sure you are using valid Download ID for this product. ()

What do I need to do? I already checked and the download id that came with my phoca download extension purchase is showing on the registration page. I am assuming that this is a combined license, correct?

Help please!

Thanks,
Jens

I think switching base href as outlined below resolved my URL problem. Is this a new setting? I mean I didn't change my configuration during the upgrade and everything worked fine before...

I believe some components use base URL as well and so this might be the issue.

I previously used Phoca Download without the paid plug-in from JoomSEF because I only have a handful of downloads and so I don't care about the URL formatting very much...

Thanks!

I am not sure if this got broken in the latest or the upgrade before that one, but local links in articles (e.g. page/page) no longer work. It appears that JoomSEF is no longer doing short address translation (e.g. page/page => domain.com/page/page).

Could you please have a look and fix that soon? I can meanwhile use 301 redirects.

Another issue is that many components that don't have a JoomSEF plug-in stopped working as well. I am not an expert, but I am suspicious that it all tracks down to the same issue.

Basically, there is some behavior change and address translation no longer works properly.

Thanks,
Jens

I am puzzled. I created some new articles and most of them work just fine, but one article which is linked directly to a menu entry gives me a 403 error unless I log in using a valid user. Oddly enough the article and the menu are set to PUBLIC...

Further research shows that this is true for all new articles created today. I did upgrade to the latest JoomSEF version yesterday and did not encounter the problem before.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jens

I am having a similar problem. My DocMan links on the front page result in http 500.

Is the extension compatible with the latest version of DocMan?

Thanks,
Jens

P.S.: I also posted in the DocMan forum as well.

The last problem was caused by JFRouter being enabled. Luckily, this was answered in a different post. :)

I have to do some more testing, but it seems to be working now.

Only question is did I use JFRouter for anything else that stopped working now?

Thanks,
Jens

Oddly enough standard Joomla SEF works just fine for me when I activate Global SEF and Apache mod_rewrite in the global configuration. However, this does not cover any custom components...

It would seem that JoomSEF should work once the standard SEF works, but it doesn't. It now fails with a 404...

Therefore I activated 404 logging in the configuration. It showed me the link that failed. That made things even more confusing. In my browser I am seeing the URL as www.mydomain.com/en/page/1 which is also shown under Manage SEF URLs. However, the log just shows page/1. Note the missing "en"?

I guess I made some progress, but it is time consuming. I am also disappointed that there is no support here. I mean I would surely buy the product if it works for me, but I already bought some extensions that don't work and so I switched to "try successfully before you buy".

Thanks,
Jens

I read through the documentation and followed the instruction to install and configure JoomSEF closely, but I can't get it to work so far. I mean it generates the new URLs just fine, but I simply can't load the corresponding web page. I always get error 500 which basically indicates that IIS can't find the page.

Here is what I did:

1. Modify .htaccess
It is my understanding that I don't need to uncomment RewriteBase on IIS. The web page is located in the root directory of the web server.

Please note that I also tried it with RewriteBase being uncommented. Same result!

#RewriteBase /

########## Begin - Joomla! core SEF Section
#
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/index.php
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} (/|\.php|\.html|\.htm|\.feed|\.pdf|\.raw|/[^.]*)$ [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) index.php
RewriteRule .* - [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization},L]
#
########## End - Joomla! core SEF Section

2. Update IIS configuration
The latest version of IIS comes with a URL Rewrite utility. I am using the latest available version of this utility. This version allows me to import my .htaccess file into IIS. It imported successfully.

At this point I am not sure what else I can try. Did anybody get it to work on IIS?

Thanks,
Jens
