Hello,

I am using JoomSEF latest and VM extension.

What has occured to me is that the click path length for pages in my shop are quite long.

index
    /shop/ /shop/main-category/ /shop/main-category/sub-category/ /shop/main-category/sub-category/product-page.html

as you can see i now have a 4 deep click path length which will affect my sites/pages PR.

can somebody advise how I can achieve a 2 deep or less (max 3) click path length with JoomSEF ?

what i have seen done on other sites is as follows:

is that we can firstly remove the /shop/ when moving to the next level - this is just a list of categories on the page and some information.

/main-category/main-category-page.html

when moving to the next level from the main category could we move to a browse page

/browse-category/browse-category-page.html

and finally for the product page

/product-details/product-page.html

this way we only get 2 levels down and cover all products and section with minimal outbound links per page

Thanks,

Nic

Hello,

Thanks again for your fast response.

Yes, I have purged the SEF URLS and the 404's in JoomSEF control panel and manually purged the jos_redirect table in MySQL to be sure and I still get the duplicated URL's no matter what I do.

JoomSEF core is working, but the VM extension appears to be creating these duplicates due to the different ordering.

This did not happen though in version 1.3.3, so whatever changes have been made to the core have affected the Vm extension by the looks of it ?

Thankyou for your response.

There is an issue with duplicates in Virtuemart no matter what JoomSEF configration settings are used, please see this ongoing thread.

www.artio.cz/en/support-forums/joomla-ex...oblem-with-1-42/view

If I set to Include Item ID I still get a duplicate URL but now they have the ?Itemid=xx tagged on the end of the URL.

Looks like a problem with the Virtuemart module. These settings may work OK for the rest of Joomla and its components.

Hello,

Thankyou for responding.

Here are the URLs:

PRODUCT
gift-shop/collectibles/military/female-army-corp-seated-figurine-2.html

index.php?option=com_virtuemart&category_id=9&flypage=shop.flypage&manufacturer_id=0&page=shop.product_details&product_id=45

PRODUCT - duplicate URL
gift-shop/collectibles/military/female-army-corp-seated-figurine.html

index.php?option=com_virtuemart&category_id=9&flypage=shop.flypage&page=shop.product_details&product_id=45&manufacturer_id=0

Duplicates seem to be generated as products go into the virutmeart random product module.

Both URLS point to the same page - just the manufacturer and product id are in differenet positions ?

Let me know if you require more details. Looks like a problem with the JoomSEF Virtuemart extension ?

Thanks,

Nic

The ItemID settings don't seem to be working correctly in 1.4.2.

These two threads seems to have problems assocaited with it.

www.artio.cz/en/support-forums/joomla-ex...page-link-issue/view
www.artio.cz/en/support-forums/joomla-ex...oblem-with-1-42/view

Duplicate content is always created (i.e. different URL linking to same page from different sources) no matter what settings you use.

Can somebody please advise how we get this working as it is a HUGE SE problem.

Yes, I have used it and it works OK - the problem is the time it take for changes or updates to be reflectd in the content, but you can change the update cached page time delay.

However for pages using cookies such as your shop cart you will have some problems.

These will need to have a seperate link created to them and then a setting to ignore that page for caching.

Hope that helps.

I have confirmed my settings with the manual and still it fails to resolve. I have purged all previous URLs and checked they were removed from the MySQL database after setting were made.

So with no URLs in the table and these settings it fails, however the manual as descirbed below suggest that the duplicate URL should go away. Have I read / set it wrong ?

Exclude source info (Itemid) = Yes
Reappend source (Itemid) = No
Append non-SEF variables to URL = Yes

4.2. PREVENTING DUPLICATES
If you are facing duplicate content items links e.g. yoursite.you/article.html,
yoursite.you/article-2.html, etc. that lead to the same content, this is most probably caused
by so called “Itemid” variable (although there may be other reasons also).
The Itemid is internal Joomla! variable used to identify the source of a URL link. E.g. main menu
or sub menu item that your visitor used to get to a certain content. According to this variable,
different Joomla! configurations are applied - e.g. what template will be used or what modules
will be visible, etc.
Since JoomSEF 1.4.0, several new configuration options are provided in “Advanced
configuration” section. The option “Exclude source info” may be used to exclude the Itemid
variable from the URL and thus eliminate the duplicates caused by it. However, ignoring it
completely may lead to unwanted Joomla! functionality, like not swithing the templates as desired
or so. Whether this will be a problem for you or not depends mainly on the way how your site is
designed and how complicated it is. If you need to fix this, the Itemid should be “reappended” o
the SEF URL as an extra part using the option “Reappend

I have the same problem with the "Latest Products" module.

This is a massive SE issue and is causing duplicate content, killing my site.

Have messed around with the configuration settings and cannot remove this problem.

Product links in the latest module have xxxxx/productname.html
Product links from the category/section witthin my shop have xxxxx/productname-2.html

Both link to the same page and trigger duplicate content errors.

Can somebody please advise a fix for this quickly.

Hello,

I am using JD-worporess (worpress integration for joomla).
Artio generates FURLS OK, however I get a page cannot be displayed error message.
Work fine with OpenSEF.
Anybody come across this before ?
Is there a work around ?

Thanks,
Nic

Hello,
I am using some code which generates a product data feed.
At present I can get the standard joomla and SEF URL's as the links to products on the site from the feed.
I would like to know how I can replace these URL's with the Artio FURL's.
Some guidance would be apprecaited.
Thanks,

This code generates the URL for the product

$ffe_product_id = $db->f("product_id");
$dbc = new ps_DB;
$dbc2 = new ps_DB;

$flypage = $ps_product->get_flypage($ffe_product_id);

$q = "SELECT category_id FROM #__{vm}_product_category_xref WHERE product_id = '".$ffe_product_id."' LIMIT 0,1";
$dbc->query( $q );
$dbc->next_record();
if( !$dbc->f("category_id") ) {
// The product has no category entry and must be a Child Product
// So let's get the Parent Product category id
$q = "SELECT category_id FROM #__{vm}_product_category_xref WHERE product_id = '".$ffe_product_parent_id."' LIMIT 0,1";
$dbc->query( $q );
$dbc->next_record();
$ffe_category_id = $dbc->f("category_id");
}
elseif ($dbc->f("category_id")) {
$ffe_category_id = $dbc->f("category_id");
}
else {
$ffe_category_id = "0";
}
//if SEF is turned on!
if ($d['sef_link'] == "Y"){
$product_url = URL . "component/option,com_virtuemart/page,shop.product_details/flypage,". $flypage . "/product_id," . $ffe_product_id . "/category_id," . $ffe_category_id;
}
//if SEF is turned off!
else {
$product_url = URL . "index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.product_details&flypage=$flypage&product_id=$ffe_product_id&category_id=$ffe_category_id";

Hi,

I have been using OpenSEF and have problems with some links not FURling causing a major SE headache.

The latest Virtuemart Shop Module has a "Lost Your Password?" link which fails to FURL exposing all my links as no FURLS creating duplicate content.

I use JRESEF for the Meta and their Cache solution.

Can ARTIO SEF sort the non FURling of the above link for me ?
Thanks
Nic
