TOPIC: XML Sitemap Index File

I have generated the sitemap.xml file and submitted it to google and bing. However, none of the urls are now indexed. How do I create a sitemap index file or is that not necessary?

Prior to submitting the sitemap generated by JoomSEF we had a number of indexed urls at google.

Hi,
The sitemap index file is not necessary if you don't want to use more than one sitemap XML file.
How did you find out that your URLs are not indexed? From Google Webmasters Tools or did you try to search for site:yourdomain.com in Google?

I used webmaster tools and found that our sitemap is registered, however of the 365 urls none were indicated as indexed.

Check if the URLs in your sitemap XML file are correct - if they link to your website properly there should be no reason why they wouldn't be indexed. Maybe it just takes Google some time.
