TOPIC: Purging 404 Log

Purging 404 Log 9 years, 9 months ago #44822

My host notified me of some large tables in my Joomla database. The largest one I noticed was:

| Database | Table Name | # of Rows | Size In MB |
+-----------------+-----------------------------------------+-----------+------------+
| database_name | tablename_404_log | 1243815 | 253 |

Can I and should I purge the 404 log? Would that clear it up?

This is on a site running on Joomla 1.0.15 with JoomSEF v1.2.4. It also had the 404 Redirect for Artio JoomSEF installed to automatically strip -2.html, -3.html, -5.php etc.. from erroneous URL and redirect to root URL.

Just wanted to make sure that the 404 log can be purged without any problems.

Thank you

Hi,

Yes you can purge the 404 log safely. However, I'm nut sure whether the _404_log table belongs to JoomSEF, JoomSEF stores the 404 log together with SEF URLs in the same table named _sefurls. But version 1.2.4 is very old, so maybe it was different back then.
