Do you think maybe your ranking dropped due to the sudden change in page URL's? My site sits #1 for hundreds of key phrases and I've used joomSEF for almost a year.

It could have just been a temporary drop.

What is your site's URL? I'd like to take a look.

Mine is www.enewspf.com I have disabled Artio JoomSEF for now. I'm too concerned about the penalty aspect of my site's URLs.

If this is not true, I'd like to hear more about this.

Unfortunately, I do not give out my website URL for fear of being hacked. I have done a ton of custom programming to disguise my site as a non-joomla site, so providing my link would make those changes irrelevant.

Details about the sef settings:
I use the global Meta data for most pages, but have about 20 pages with custom data using the joomsef metabot. I have not modified any of the settings in the joomsef admin except for the custom component names. I am currently using ver. 2.26 and did not experience any ranking drops during upgrades. I also made sure that all important crawled links were set as custom redirects so that nothing changed.

I am so proud of the site that I wish I could link it to EVERYONE, but no can do... Sorry!

Would you explain this a bit more?

\" I also made sure that all important crawled links were set as custom redirects so that nothing changed.\"

Where did you set these as custom redirects?

Thanks.

Re:Google penalizes your site with Artio! 16 years ago #4007

I set them as custom redirects in the joom SEF admin section. This option is automatically checked when you modify an SEF URL. If you don't do this, all created SEF URL's will be lost during the upgrade and the new ones may not match the old ones. This would create a ton of \"URLs not found\" during the Google crawl.
