How to upgrade the component?

Answer

There are several ways of upgrading the ARTIO JoomSEF component to newer version:

  1. online upgrade
  2. manual upgrade using downloaded installation package
  3. uninstall and reinstall

Online Upgrade

This is certainly the easiest way how to upgrade. When you go to Upgrade page (through JoomSEF Control Panel), JoomSEF component will connect to remote server and check if new version is available. If so, it will inform you about upgrade possibility. This applies both to the main component and add-on extensions supplied by ARTIO. You will see your current version number and latest version number available.

The installation is done via clicking the "Upgrade from ARTIO server" or "Upgrade" button. The newest installation package will be downloaded and deployed automatically. Online upgrade will keep all your current URLs and setting untouched.

If you see "?.?.?" instead of the latest available version number or you get a message "Cannot connect with remote server.", please check the topic "Online upgrade does not work".

Manual Upgrade

If you have the installation package downloaded in your local computer, instead of using online upgrade, you can use this file. Just select the installation package at the Upgrade page and click "Upgrade from file" button.

This way of upgrading is also usefull, when you do not want to upgrade to the latest version. Also it can be used to reinstall the component. If you choose the same package version as you have currently installed, the repair process will be initiated. During this process, instead of upgrading only the changed files, all source files will be replaced by their originals. However, your settings and existing URLs will be preserved.

Uninstall and Reinstall

If you need to downgrade or the upgrade functionality is broken, you may use the Joomla system installer to remove the component completely and then reinstall it. Please note, that on uninstall, all settings and existing URLs will be lost! Therefore, if you want to keep your URLs, backup them first!
